WP1 - Genomic Data Modeling
The objective of WP1 is the design of a multi-level GenData 2020 data model, expressing the various interesting features that are embedded in the produced
biomolecular data, or in their correlated phenotypic data that can be extracted from clinical databases, or in the information inferred by applying data analysis methods
to them.
WP2 - Publishing, Crawling, Searching Genomic Data
The objective of WP2 is to support the publishing, crawling, and searching of genomic data. A paradigm shift in genomic data search will empower scientists and give
them a boost of productivity, similar to the revolution that has characterized the beginning of this millennium, under the boost of search technology.
WP3 - Clinical Data Extraction
There is an emerging demand, largely unmet, for the integration and exploitation of heterogeneous biomedical information to improve clinical practice, medical
research and personalized healthcare.
WP4 - Bio-Ontology Management
WP4 is focused on Bio-Ontology management, with emphasis on integrating and enriching experimental data, as collected in the common data model, with
ontological knowledge, extracted from ontological sources or produced by experiments, so as to make available to biologists a large body of cumulated science.
WP5 - Genomic Data Analytics
The objective of WP5 is the definition of analysis services for genomic data, exploiting the GenData 2020 data model to provide powerful analysis tools, allowing
scientists to thoroughly analyze all the available heterogeneous information by selecting the appropriate granularity level and dimensions.
WP6 - Privacy, Security and Trust
The novel data management techniques that will be developed in the project can see effective exploitation and social acceptance only if there is assurance that
sensitive information is not improperly leaked to unauthorized eyes. The objective of WP6 is the development of techniques for ensuring the respect of security and
privacy in the different scenarios where genomic data are stored, shared, processed, or disseminated.
WP7 - Use Cases
The objective of WP7 is supporting the experimentation of various components, organizing the collection of requirements, identifying specific profiles for the use of
the solutions produced by the project, and offering to a variety of end users access to the results. Three use-cases are being planned; in the first study, we involve
biology researchers at work in their laboratories; in the second study, we involve biologists in strong contacts with clinicians who use results of clinical trials which
involve large sets of patients; the third study focuses on how to extract data from large organizations while protecting data security, privacy, provenance and trust.
